Helping Students Dream Big One at a Time
Another school year will soon be upon us. Another group of students will be needing financial help to help them continue with school. Our scholarship program has been a huge success and has had a remarkable impact on our students, sometimes being the helping hand needed which allowed them to stay in school. Since its inception, the scholarship program has become one of the most important features to our program. Students see it as an incentive to work hard in the classroom and stay in school because they understand that there is a limited amount of scholarships issued every year. They understand that the money they receive will make a big difference throughout the school year and will lift a huge burden off their shoulders.
Our scholarship program, what we call “becas,” begins helping students financially once they enter middle school. We make a promise to each student receiving a beca from us that we will continue helping them for as many years as they stay in school. Some of these students have been with us for years and continue to receive help now that they are almost finished with University. Twenty-five of our beca students were enrolled in University this past year. This coming school year, nine of our high school graduates are moving on to university. This brings the total to 34 students enrolled in higher education. This in a colonia where, before our program arrived, university students were almost non-existent.
“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.”
The becas program could not exist without the caring support of each single person who has taken on the noble job of sponsoring one of our students. It is you who make it possible for us to offer this program. In a future newsletter, you will read about the incredible success Marco is having at the University of Colima and of the unforgettable experiences Paola had as an exchange student in the United States. Most of you know about Paco who is almost finished with medical school, or Rodolfo (culinary arts) and Janet (architecture) and Lizeth and Kennya (nurse practitioner) who will be graduating with degrees in the near future. The becas program has given these kids wings to fly and dream bigger than they thought possible. And these are just a few of the many success stories we have the space to mention herein. There’s no doubt the becas program is helping students dream big one at a time.
