Meet our Students Uri & Marco

Marco Reyes Cervantes and Uri Munoz Chavarin are students with bright futures. In past issues of our newsletter we have written about their talents and dreams and most of you know them personally and/or have helped them get to where they are today.

Both of these students are currently enrolled in one of the best music schools in Mexico – Universidad de Colima Instituto Universitario de Bellas Artes. Uri is studying to be an orchestra conductor and Marco is going to be a professional piano player. They both are very talented and passionate musicians and have wowed crowds here in Puerto Vallarta for years with their musical talents.

“I believe musicians have a duty, a responsibility to reach out, to share your love or pain with others.”

On January 16, 2019 a group of us were able to see them in action here at the Volcanes Kids Education Project. They were on vacation from school and when we found out they were in town we asked them to come play for us and shows what they had learned at Colima. We set up a small area for them in our library and they played a few of their pieces for us. Some pieces were played as solos and the rest were a combination of them both playing together. Uri also sang a couple of songs, her beautiful voice reverberating throughout the school. A lot of our younger students were sneaking a peak through the windows and asking who these “musicos” were. When told it was two students from the colonia they smirked and rolled their eyes thinking we were pulling their legs. The good thing is that a few students recognized them and confirmed that they were in fact students from Volcanes just like them.

We are very proud of Marco and Uri for their hard work and dedication to music. Both of them are very driven and will get as far as their wings can take them. We are also very thankful to the people who have helped them stay in school and continue their dreams. People like Gail Arnold and her husband Steve Clarke who have sponsored their becas. Professors Amy Finch and Ron Fahey who are helping Marco financially on a monthly basis. Georgia Dareshori who helped Marco get exposure at Casa Karma and with an initial donation to send him to Colima. Others have also helped these two students throughout the years. All of these people have made a difference beyond what they can imagine. Luckily, most of them were present on this day to witness the impact education and music has made in their lives.

We will continue doing everything in our power to help ALL of our students Dream Big like these two amazing students have.
